It is my pleasure to introduce you to the sixth edition of the Military Service Recognition Book. We are indeed proud of the service and sacrifice that our Veterans past and present, and our now serving military personnel, have given and continue to give, to Canada and other countries throughout the world. We appreciate that families, relatives, Legion branches, schools and individuals have forwarded these submissions and hope that others will continue to follow. Submission forms are available at your local Legion branches, the Saskatchewan Command office in Regina and online at www.sasklegion.ca. We are fortunate to have Fenety Marketing Services continuing to produce these fine books on our behalf, and we thank all individuals, businesses and organizations that have generously made donations when canvassed. The history that is contained within these books is not just that of the individuals, but that of the whole of this great country, as well. As intended, this book continues to be in place for the general public and is available in schools, libraries, educational facilities and community centres throughout our province. The people of Saskatchewan are profoundly grateful to our current service personnel and Veterans for their courage and sacrifice in defence of our country and those unable to defend themselves. This publication is a great resource for our youth and all those interested in learning more about military history and the immense contributions of our Canadian Armed Forces to protect the freedoms we cherish as Canadians. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who helped to make this publication possible, including the family members of the servicemen and women profiled in this book. Your support helps the Legion to continue to fulfill its role as the “Keepers of Remembrance” as well as sustain many ongoing community activities for Saskatchewan’s Veterans and their dependants. The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 11 ABBOTT, Jack WWI Jack was born in Canada in 1920. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and was stationed at Claresholm, Alberta and in England where he served as an Airfield Controller. Sergeant Abbott was medically discharged. Jack got married and was a member of North Battleford Legion for about sixty-four years. ADAIR (nee HOWSON), June WWII June was born in Quill Lake, Saskatchewan. She joined the Royal Canadian Navy during World War II and served as a secretary in Digby, Nova Scotia from 1943–1946. ADAMS, Archie T. WWII Archie’s parents were John and Jane Adams. They had homesteaded in the Davidson district where John had died. Archie and his mother Jane moved to Viscount in 1921, where he was raised. He joined the Army during WWII and served with the Royal Canadian Engineers as a Sapper.
