The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 153 GOODRICH, Henry Charles “Harry” WWII Harry was born in Tetbury, Gloucestershire, England in 1877 and came to Canada in 1908. He had apprenticed as a farrier before coming to Canada so that is what he did in the war. He joined the Army in 1914 and was discharged in 1918, after which he opened a blacksmith shop in Meacham, SK. He also had a John Deere dealership. Harry married Ethel Owl and they went to Australia in 1928. Upon Ethel’s death, Harry moved back to Meacham and he passed away in 1955. GOVAN, Andrew WWI Andrew was born in Scotland in 1900 and came to Canada in 1907 to live in the Hacienda District. He joined the Royal Canadian Army at the age of 15 and was with the 9th Platoon, 214th Battalion during World War I. He was later discharged because he was too young. Andrew was a member of Quill Lake Legion Branch 37 for a number of years before he died in 1962. GOVAN, Robert W. WWII Robert was born in Quill Lake, Saskatchewan in 1922. He joined the Army and served from 1941-1945 with the 2nd Heavy AntiAircraft and Field Artillery in Canada, England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. The 2nd Heavy Unit received the Order of the British Empire for the number of airplanes shot down over England. Robert married and had two children. A member of Quill Lake Legion Branch 37 for twenty-five years, he received his Life Membership and was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal in 2009.
