The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 149 GJOSUND, Herb WWII Herb was born in Meacham, SK and attended the York and Meacham schools. Herb and his brother, Alf, both enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force. He was discharged in 1943. Herb raised three children with his wife, Maxine Cameron. Their last residence was in Saskatoon, SK. GLOVER, Hugh Brown WWI Hugh was born on March 22, 1875 in Galston, Ayr, Scotland. He joined the Army on January 26, 1916 in Saskatoon, SK and served overseas during World War I. He was a tinsmith by trade and was married to Jane and living in Saskatoon at the time of his enlistment. Hugh is mentioned in the March 2, 1917 edition of The Viscount Sun as a returned veteran from the Viscount area. GOLDS, Albert Thomas “Bert” WWI Bert was born on March 30, 1885 to Arthur Henry and Eleanor Golds of Eastbourne, Sussex, England. He came to Canada in 1910 with Thomas Paulett and Thomas’s sons, Thomas James (T.J.) and Fred Nugent from Pontypool, South Wales. He was an only child, a huge hulk of a man wearing a size 12 shoe. Bert was a single farmer from Plunkett, SK when he joined the Army on March 27, 1916 in Lanigan, SK. He served as a Private in England with the 28th Battalion of the Saskatchewan Regiment in WWI as he felt it was his duty to return to England and defend his country. Bert was killed in action in 1914 on his first day of active service. He is buried at Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery at Poperinge, WestVlaanderen, Belgium.
