The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 91 DAWES, Arthur Edwin “Art” WWI Arthur was born to Harry and Rose Dawes on September 2, 1896 in Pormondeey, London, England, later working on the family farm in Plunkett, SK. His mother died when he was young and his dad raised the five boys. Arthur married Nellie Bloss and raised two girls on the farm. He joined the Army on March 10, 1916 in Lanigan, SK, served in the machine gun corps and was wounded in France that same year. He retired from farming for health reasons in 1942 and went to Saskatoon, SK where he worked at the Air Force Base. He then moved to Toronto, ON then Vancouver, BC. He married Annie (Bloss) McWillie before finally moving back to Naicam, Saskatchewan to live. His daughter Phoebe joined the Navy in WWII. Arthur died on September 11, 1980. DAWES, Roy “Walter” WWII Roy was born in Plunkett, Saskatchewan in 1927 and he went to school at the Eltham country school. His cousin, Phoebe Dawes, was also in the military. Roy’s family moved to North Vancouver, BC in the early 1940s. Roy joined the Army and served in World War II. After the war, he was employed by a dairy where he worked for many years. DAYMOND, Dr. Robert Samuel WWII Robert was born in Wimmer, SK on July 15, 1907. Dr. ‘Bob’ took his early schooling at Humboldt Public School, then Bedford Road Collegiate in Saskatoon, SK. He then entered Queens University in Ontario and graduated from Medical School in 1932. A specialist in internal medicine, Robert was the first municipal doctor in Saskatchewan when he came to Viscount in 1933. He married Dina Van Ness and they had twins. In 1939, he enlisted and served overseas in the Medical Corps. After his discharge in 1945, he decided to move to Saskatoon where his specialty in anesthetics honed overseas was much needed at City hospital. Robert passed away in 1956.
