The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 185 HOLCOMB, Clyde Ross WWII Clyde was born on April 14, 1924 in Welland, ON and took his schooling at Humberstone, ON. He later worked for Imperial Oil, Robin Hood and Maple Leaf Flour Mills. Clyde married Beula Hannigan of Viscount, SK before enlisting in the Army on July 1, 1944 and serving as a Private with the Infantry in Canada, England, Holland and Germany. He was discharged on July 31, 1946 after spending time with the occupational troops. Clyde was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and the France and Germany Star. After the war, he moved his family from Welland to the Viscount area, where he farmed for many years before retiring to Saskatoon. Clyde and Beula raised eight children and he passed away on November 2, 2005. He was a member of Viscount Legion Branch 271. HOLLAND, Gerald “Jerry” WWII Jerry was born on June 19, 1921 in Colonsay, Saskatchewan. He joined the Army in Saskatoon, SK on June 20, 1942 and served as a Corporal in Canada, England and Germany with the Lake Superior Regiment. Discharged in February 1945, he was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Special Bar (Battle of Great Britain) and 1939-45 Star. He raised three children with his wife, Alice Moen, and farmed in the Viscount and Colonsay districts before retiring to Saskatoon. He was a RM councilor for Colonsay from 1977-1987. Gerald died on March 17, 2011 in Saskatoon. He was a member of Viscount Legion Branch 271. HORNYAK, John Jr. WWII John was born in Kaposvar (Esterhazy), Saskatchewan and was raised by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Busa of Plunkett, SK. He joined the Navy and served with the Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserve during World War II. After his discharge, he married Loreen Kisman. John played ball with the ‘Prairie Rangers’ baseball team and was employed as an accounts manager of Quaker Oats Company in Middleton, New Brunswick until his death in 1978.
