The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 171 HANSON, Lowell Theodore WWII Lowell was born in Viscount, SK in 1918 and was one of the village’s first ball players. A highlight of those days was taking first place prize at the Saskatoon Exhibition in 1910. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force on July 26, 1940 and served as a Sergeant in Canada. He was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. Discharged on August 31, 1945, he then farmed in the Viscount area until 1954 when he retired to Saskatoon and later passed away. He raised five children with his wife, Christine and was a member of Viscount Legion Branch 271. HARRIS, Alfred Easton “Alf” WWII Alf was born in Colonsay, SK on October 12, 1921. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy in July 1942 and was discharged in 1945. Alf operated Harris Electric with his brother, Ron, in Lloydminster, SK and retired in 1979. He was also in construction and leasehold of multi-residences and industrial warehousing until 1995. Alf raised three children with his wife, Betty, and he passed away in Lloydminster on April 11, 2008. HART, Richard Alfred KOREA Richard was born in Folkestone, England in 1921. He enlisted on May 23, 1949 when he was 28 years old, attaining the rank of Captain on June 13, 1955 and on August 26, the rank of Major. He then served with Lord Strathcona’s Horse Regiment in India-Burma (British Army), NW Europe, Japan and Korea. He was awarded the Burma Star, the Defence Medal, the War Medal, the UN (Korea) Medal and the Canadian Forces Decoration. He was discharged in 1955 in order to enter the ministry and he became a United Church minister. He married and had two children when he came to serve at Viscount United Church as a student minister in 1955. He was a member of Viscount Legion Branch 271.
