The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 103 DOLPHIN, Edmond C. “Bud” WWII Bud was born in 1916 in Meacham, SK, where he also attended York School, just east of there. He farmed and worked at building wooden elevators prior to enlisting in the Army and serving with the Saskatoon Light Infantry in England, Italy, France, Belgium, Germany and Holland. He was awarded six medals during his time of service and was discharged in 1946. Bud had four siblings also sign up: Arlington, Fern and William (Bill), in the Royal Canadian Air Force and Jack in the Royal Canadian Navy. His dad, Jack Sr., was in the Boer War. After the war, he continued farming in the Meacham area. He married Martha (Danielson) Morris. DOLPHIN, John “Jack” Jr. WWII Jack was born in Meacham, SK in 1922. He attended the York and Meacham schools and helped on the family farm growing up. He went to work in Saskatoon, SK before enlisting in the Royal Canadian Navy in 1943. After his discharge in 1945, he continued his education in accounting and office management. In 1971, the family moved to a farm near Calgary, AB. Jack raised two children with his wife, Joy Fines. DOLPHIN, John Robert “Jack” WWI Jack was born in Dundalk, ON in 1876. He was a machinist by trade and had been with the 55th Regiment for 10 years before enlisting in the Army in Sherbrooke, QC on January 9, 1902. He served as a Private with the 2nd Regiment of the Canadian Mounted Rifles in South Africa (Boer War). Discharged in 1902, he was awarded the Queen’s South Africa Medal with 3 Clasps, the Cape Colony, Transvaal and S.A. 1902. After his discharge, he went to Fitchburg, Massachusetts to work at Simonds File Co. then married Mabel Strictland in 1906 with whom he raised eleven children. In 1909, Jack went homesteading in the Meacham, SK area, where he farmed all of his life. Jack had five children enlist in WWII: Arlington, Bud, Bill, Fern and Jack Jr. He died in 1953.
