The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 73 COE, William “Bill” BOER WAR Bill was a Colonel with the 10th Lancers in the British Army and served in South Africa as well as in the Army in India during the Boer War. He then came to the Eltham district south of Plunkett, Saskatchewan and farmed in the area. Then during the First World War, he conducted military drills and exercises on the Eltham School grounds. He was the Pool delegate for the Plunkett subdistrict from 1928-1933 and with his wife, Agnes, he raised an adopted son. Bill died in 1934. COLHOUN, Robert J. “Bert” WWII Bert was born on October 4, 1923 in Londonderry, Ireland. He joined the Army on July 15, 1943 and served overseas as a Trooper with the Canadian Armoured Corps, suffering the loss of sight in his left eye. He was discharged on April 10, 1944. Bert was a farmer in the Viscount District until his retirement in Saskatoon, SK. He married Phyllis Osterhout and raised a family of five. He became a charter member of Viscount Legion Branch 271 in 1945. Bert received his 50-Year Long Service Medal from Viscount Legion Branch 271 and his 6oth Anniversary Medal in 1985. COLLINGE, Jack WWII Jack was born in England in 1919 and came to Quill Lake, Saskatchewan in 1941. He joined the Canadian Army and served in Canada during World War II. He received a medical discharge and never married. Jack died in 1998 and is buried in Quill Lake Cemetery.
