The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 191 HRYNKIW, Walter WWII Walter was born in Poland in 1922. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force on September 22, 1941 and served as a Flying Officer in Canada, England and Europe. His brother, Paul, also enlisted and served in World War II. Walter received the 1939-45 Star, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and the Distinguished Flying Cross. After his discharge on April 20, 1945, he operated a general store for twenty-six years. While in Plunkett, he curled, played ball, coached ball teams and served as mayor from 1966-1972. Walter raised a family of four with his wife, Chris Danielson, and after retiring to Saskatoon, started selling novelties and such to the surrounding area. He was a member of Viscount Legion Branch 271. Walter died on May 28, 2012. HUNTER, Bruce WWII Bruce was born in Plunkett, Saskatchewan and he went to school in the area. He joined the Navy and served in World War II. His brother, Robert, also enlisted and his father, Fred, had served in World War I. Bruce passed away in 1980. HUNTER, Fred WWI Fred was born in Durham, England in 1885. He immigrated to the USA and in 1911, filed for a homestead in Saskatchewan. He sold it and enlisted in the Army to serve in World War I. He was gassed during the war. After the war, Fred farmed for a short time northeast of Plunkett then moved into Plunkett where he was an elevator agent until he retired. Fred raised four children with his wife, Maude Burton, and two of his sons, Bruce and Robert, enlisted and served during WWII. Fred passed away in 1966.
