The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 145 GARVEY, Parker WWI Parker joined the Army and served in World War I. He is mentioned as a WWI veteran in the March 2, 1917 issue of The Viscount Sun. GARVIK, Klas WWII Klas was born in 1912 in Seljord, Telemark, Norway. He immigrated to Canada in 1929 and worked in Alberta for a while before going to the Meacham, SK area to work for farmers and eventually buying land himself. He joined the Army in 1942, serving in Halifax, NS and in Vernon, Prince Rupert and Vancouver, BC before being discharged in 1946. He hauled merchandise for many people in the area and in 1947, joined the Department of Highways. He married Winnie (Davis) Anderson and helped raise three children. Klas died in 1965. GIBB, Charles “Charlie” WWII Charlie was born in the Golden Acre district, north of Viscount, SK. Charlie and his brother, Ernie, both signed up, Charlie joining the Army in 1941 and serving as a Private with the South Saskatchewan Regiment of the Canadian Forestry Corps in Canada, England and Scotland. He was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and in 1945, he was discharged then married Christine Gruel, with whom he raised two sons. He farmed north of Viscount in the Lucasville district and was a member of Viscount Legion Branch 271. Charlie died in 1965 in Viscount.
