The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 95 DESROSIERS, Léonce WWII Léonce was born on October 9, 1919 in Peterson, SK and went to Red Willow School. He left the family farm at fourteen to work in Ontario but came home in 1941 to join the Army and serve in the Artillery. He trained in Halifax, NS, Glasgow, Scotland and Aldershot, England for 2 ½ years. On the front lines, he fought with his battalion for 11 consecutive months and was in Oldenburg, Germany when the war ended in 1945. Léonce was discharged in Regina, SK where he was awarded the 1939-45 Star and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. He married Jean McInnis and farmed in Peterson/Meacham area. They had no children. He retired then worked at the Middle Lake senior home. In 1990, they retired to Humboldt until he passed away on July 10, 2008. Léonce was a member of Humboldt Legion Branch 28. DESROSIERS, Raymond WWII Raymond was born on May 26, 1917 in Meacham, SK where he grew up on the family farm and took his schooling at Red Willow. He moved to Exeter, Ontario to work for farmers but returned home in 1941 to enlist as a volunteer in the Artillery, then served overseas. After his discharge, Ray’s career with the Canadian National Railways took him to Ontario, first to Fort Erie then Woodstock where he married Marjorie Lanaway. They raised three children. Hard work, dedication and strong commitment to family values were his legacy. Raymond died on July 2, 2003. DEWEY, William Joseph WWII William was born on September 18, 1919 in Young, Saskatchewan and he served during World War II. William died on July 4, 2006.
