The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 37 BARRY, Walter Nicholas WWII Walter was born in Saskatoon, SK on October 13, 1917 and raised on the family farm north of Young, where he also attended school. The family later moved to BC. Walter moved back to Saskatchewan to work with the Canadian National Railway and then joined the Army in Saskatoon, serving as a Private in BC. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. After his discharge, he came back to Prince Albert, SK to continue working with the CNR until he retired. Walter and his wife, Olga, raised four girls and one son. He was a member of Prince Albert Legion Branch and had a full Legion funeral. BARTON, Richard “Dick” WWI & WWII Dick was born in Somersetshire, England on December 4, 1893.With his two brothers, Leonard Noel and Arthur Oswald, he enlisted in WWI, joining the Army on March 20, 1916 and serving overseas with the 193rd Battalion. After the war, he went back to farming at Pugwash, NS where his mother Annie and his sisters lived. He moved to homestead at Young, SK in 1921 where he farmed until 1942. He also served in the Veteran’s Guard, enlisting in 1944. He went from Regina, Medicine Hat, and finally Lethbridge. After his second discharge in May 1945, he worked as a carpenter in Alberta. He died on November 22, 1947. Dick and his wife, Delena Berneish, had four children. BATCH, Charles “Charlie” WWII Charlie was born and raised on a farm in the area of Viscount, SK and completed his schooling at Viscount Consolidated School. He joined the Army and served as a Corporal. After his discharge, Charlie lived and worked in Trail, British Columbia.
