The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 183 HILTZ, Percy Joseph WWII Percy was born on March 23, 1916 in Spruce Home, SK. He joined the Army in June 1940 and served as a Lance Bombardier with the 44th Battalion, 13th Field Regiment in England, France and Germany. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, the 1939-45 Star, the Defence Medal, the Victory Medal and the France and Germany Star. His brothers, Pat and Jim, also enlisted and their father, Clarence, served in WWI. Discharged in June 1945, Pat worked for the City of Prince Albert as Justice of the Peace and coroner. He married Helen Clark, had 3 children and re-married much later after her death. Percy and Dollie (Crowe) Martinson lived in Penticton where he passed away on August 23, 1996. He was a member of Prince Albert Legion Branch 002. HOGAN, Elmer WWII Elmer was born in Viscount, Saskatchewan. With his brother, Tom, he enlisted in the Army and served in World War II. Elmer raised three children with his wife, Margaret Root, and they have made their home in Red Deer, Alberta. HOGAN, Thomas Edward “Tom” WWII Tom was born in Viscount, SK on August 27, 1914. He joined the Army on February 4, 1942 and served as a Private with the Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers in Canada, France, Germany, Belgium, Holland and England. He was awarded the France and Germany Star, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, and the 1939-45 Star. He was discharged on February 2, 1946. His brother, Elmer, also enlisted and served in World War II. Tom was a mechanic in Viscount and never married. He joined The Royal Canadian Legion on February 20, 1946 and was a member of Viscount Legion Branch 271 for forty-three years. He passed away on May 28, 1989.
