The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 39 BEADLE, Walter Garnett WWI Walter was born in Belton, England on January 18, 1886. He joined the Army on December 10, 1917 in Brandon, MB and served in England as a Private with the Red Cross, Medical Corps. He was with 10 M.D. 1st Battalion, Manitoba Regiment. Discharged in September 1919, Walter received the General Service Medal. In 1928, he left Manitoba with his wife, Lillian Sharp, and their two children for Plunkett, SK where he remained and worked as a blacksmith. In 1975, he went to Lanigan to reside at Parkland Lodge until his passing on February 9, 1979. He had a sister, Laura Dent, living at Yorkshire, England listed as his next of kin on his enlistment papers. Walter was a member of Viscount Legion Branch 271. BEATON, Hartley William “Bill” WWII Bill was born in Viscount, SK. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1941 and served overseas in 1942. After his discharge, he married Irene Broatch and attended the University of British Columbia where he obtained his Bachelor of Commerce degree. He worked for Canadian Fishing Co. for six years, then for a medical insurance company. In 1964, they moved to Ottawa and were there until retirement. They now live in White Rock, BC. Bill’s brother, Jack, enlisted during peacetime. BEATON, John “Jack” PEACETIME Jack began his education in Viscount, SK, where he was born, and finished up in Vancouver, B.C. where the family had moved. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1951 and went overseas in 1953, where he met and married Miriam Hopkins in England. One daughter was born there and two sons were born in New Brunswick. In 1962, after Jack left the service, they moved to the Vancouver area to live and work. Jack and his brother, Bill, (WWII) both enlisted.
