He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and served as a Sergeant in Canada for 5 years. He married, had two children, and his trade was that of a carpenter. He died in 1990 in Calgary and his ashes were scattered over English Bay, British Columbia. BAKEWELL, John Sr. WWI John was born in Leicester, England in 1892, came to Canada in 1912 and lived in the Valley Plain District. He married Elizabeth Peace and they had two children. Private Bakewell served with the 144th Battalion in WWI in Canada, England and France before being medically discharged in 1919. John was awarded the British War Medal and the Victory Medal. He died in 1949 and was buried in Vancouver, British Columbia. BAKEWELL, John WWII John was born in Quill Lake, Saskatchewan in 1917. He joined the Calgary Highlanders and served as a Sergeant from 1939-1946 in Canada, England, Belgium, Holland, Germany and France, where he was wounded. He married, moved to Calgary and raised two children. He died around 1989 and is buried in Calgary.
