The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 19 ANDERSON, Melvin WWII Melvin resided in Saskatchewan’s Plunkett area before enlisting in the Army and serving in World War II. ANDERSON, Mervyn Wesley “Merv” PEACETIME Merv was born in Young, SK and grew up on the family farm while attending Rapid Advance School and the high school in Young. He worked for a time as a parts man for Massey Harris in Saskatoon, SK before joining the Royal Canadian Air Force. He was stationed in Canada, after which he spent a year with the NATO forces in El Arish, Egypt. He married Elaine Tylandsvik and they raised three children. Merv and his family moved to Plunkett in 1973 to farm and he later retired in Watrous, SK. Active in the community, Merv was a school board trustee and served on the Plunkett Rec. Board, and on the curling and Wheat Pool boards. Merv died on December 30, 2008. ANDERSON, Murray WWII Murray was born in Plunkett, Saskatchewan in 1919 and went to school in Glynfield, SK, except for Grade 12. He was a teacher before he joined the Army and served as a Corporal with the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals in Canada and Australia. After his military service, he became a physicist with Atomic Energy of Canada until he retired in Lethbridge, AB. Murray was the nephew of Jack and Weston Anderson.
