The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 35 BARRY, Edward Henry “Eddie” WWII Ed was born in Saskatoon, SK on June 30, 1917 and was raised on the family farm northeast of Young. His parents paid for the children to go to Young (McClellan School). After joining the Army in British Columbia in 1942, he served as a Private and was a transport driver in British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan. After his discharge, he remained in BC and drove a delivery truck for the T. Eaton Co. in Vancouver until his retirement. With his wife, Joan Murray, he raised two children. Ed received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. BARRY, John Reginald “Reg” WWII Reg was born on a farm in Young, SK on June 8, 1921 and then the family moved to Vancouver, BC. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in June 1941 and was a bomber, serving as a Warrant Officer in England before transferring to Belgium. Transport Command posted him to Norway until his discharge in November 1945. Reg received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, the Overseas Medal, Victory in Europe and the France and Germany Star. After the war, he attended the University of British Columbia, taught at elementary and high schools and became a Principal at an elementary school in Delta, BC. Reg and his wife, Thérèse Guichon, raised three daughters and he is now retired and living at White Rock, BC. His three brothers, Ed, Bob and Walter, also enlisted. BARRY, Robert William “Bob” WWII Bob was born in Saskatoon, SK on April 22, 1911 and raised on a farm north of Young, where he went to school. The family moved to BC when he was older. Bob was a Sergeant in the Royal Canadian Air Force and a Flight Engineer for six years, serving in Quebec and Prince Rupert, BC. His three brothers, Ed, Reg and Walter, also enlisted. After his discharge, he worked as a car salesman for GM in Vancouver. Bob and his wife, Gwen Protheroe, had no children. He retired to Victoria, BC where he passed away in May 2002. Bob received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal.
