The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 97 DIENO, Emil WWII Emil was born to Ernest Dieno in Young, Saskatchewan. He was educated at the Manitou Hill country school. The family farmed east of Young but moved to British Columbia in 1930. He joined the Army and served in World War II. DIENO, Eric WWII Eric was born to August and Rosalia Dieno on October 18, 1919 in Viscount, SK. He joined the Army in 1941, took basic training at Dundurn, Saskatchewan, and served in England. After his discharge in 1946, he and his bride Rose Renner went to live in Saskatoon, SK where he worked for a gravel and cement company and later for McGavin’s Bakery, driving a horse drawn van delivering goodies. In 1952, he moved back to Young, SK where he farmed until 1996. He raised four children with Rose but she passed away in 1962. He later married Lillian (McCarthy) Buyck. Eventually, ill health forced him to move into Manitou Lodge in Watrous where he resided until he died on February 5, 2009. Eric enjoyed curling, fishing, hunting, dancing, cards and visiting friends. He was very community minded and served on numerous boards. DIENO, Fred WWII Fred was born to Henry and Ottelia Dieno on January 19, 1916 in the Manitou Hill district of Saskatchewan. He joined the Army on January 7, 1943 and served with the Regina Rifles Regiment. Fred and his brother, Otto, were both called up but Fred was unable to march due to his flat feet. Discharged in June 1944, Fred married Erna Renner and they raised seven children. A life-long farmer in the Young district, Fred passed away on April 25, 2006.
