The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 89 DAVENPORT, William “Bill” WWI Bill was born in England and joined the Army, serving in Britain during World War I. He came to Canada in 1920 with his wife Margaret and their first of four children. He qualified for Soldier Settlement Land, so he bought land northeast of Young, Saskatchewan to begin farming. He had a lovely tenor voice that took him to many social functions throughout the years. When he died in 1937, his son Jack took over the farm. DAVENPORT, William “Billy” WWII Billy was born in Young, Saskatchewan on March 26, 1921. He attended the Morris and Logan schools, played baseball, and farmed in the Young district. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and served as an Aero Engine mechanic at Dafoe. His father, Bill Davenport, had served in WWI. After his discharge, Billy was a Ford salesman in Rosetown for Dominion Motors and Jubilee Ford in Saskatoon, SK. He raised seven children with his wife, Rose Bjola and he passed away on June 22, 1994. DAVIS, Tom Jr. “Rocky” WWII Rocky was born and raised on a farm north of Plunkett, Saskatchewan. He joined the Army and was a POW in Japan. Rocky’s brothers, Walter and Lorne, also signed up. After his discharge, he did farm labourer work and carpentry for local farmers, got married and had four children. Rocky still lives in Duncan, British Columbia.
