The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 197 JEFFERY, Lester Lewis WWI Lester was born on April 20, 1898 in Little Britain, ON. He came to Viscount, SK in 1908 with his family and grew up on the family farm just north of there. He joined the Army in Saskatoon on March 16, 1916 and served in France where he was wounded on the battlefield. His brother, Gordon, also enlisted. Lester married Lillian Emerton of Watford, England, and in 1925, settled in England where they raised two children. Lester passed away in 1979. JOHNS, Clarence WWII Clarence was born in 1919 in Viscount, SK. He attended school there but completed his high school and college in Long Beach, California. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1941 and served as a fighter pilot with the RAF in European and Middle East theatres of operation. He was discharged in 1945. Clarence farmed in the Viscount area for over 30 years then retired to Saskatoon. He married Elsie Wallin and they raised three children. JOHNSON, Leland WWII Leland was born on October 17, 1923 in Viscount, SK. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1943 and served in Medicine Hat, AB; Jarvis, ON; Yorkton, SK; and Gimli, MB. In 1944, he went overseas with the 410 Squadron and served at Gilze Rijen, Holland. Leland returned home in July 1945 aboard the HMT Stratheden and was discharged in September 1945. He went to Regina, SK where he worked as a carpenter and in 1948, moved to Lethbridge, AB where he became a construction superintendent with Bird Construction and Westbridge Construction. This career spanned thirty-eight years. He raised three children with his wife, Ruth Skundberg.
