The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 85 CROWE, Robert Jay “Bob” WWII Bob was born in Merriman, Nebraska, USA on June 20, 1908 but grew up in northern Saskatchewan and Prince Albert. He joined the Army in Vancouver, BC on August 31, 1942 and served in the UK and Continental Europe with the Royal Canadian Ordnance Corps, then the Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers. He received the 1939-45 Star, the France and Germany Star, the Defence Medal and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. After his discharge on February 22, 1946, he worked as a steam engineer and electrician for Domtar in Cornwall, ON until he died on April 23, 1981. He raised four children with his wife, Chris MacCrimmon, and was a member of Lancaster Legion Branch as well as Grand Master of his Masonic Lodge. Bob’s brother, Perry, served in WWII and his father, Arthur, in WWI. DALE, Robert Aylmer “Bob” WWII Bob was born in Viscount, SK on June 7, 1918 and grew up in the district. He joined the Army on January 10, 1942 and served as a Trooper with the 6 CAR 1st Hussars in Canada, England, France, Germany and Holland. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, the Defence Medal, the 1939-45 Star, and the France and Germany Star. After his discharge on November 28, 1945, Bob farmed in the Viscount area then moved into Viscount when the potash mine started up. He worked there until he retired. He married Estelle Daoust and they had ten children. He was a charter member of Viscount Legion Branch 271, received the Past President Medal 1962-1973, was an Executive member from 1973-1980 and Poppy Chairman from 19851990. He also received Holland’s 60th Anniversary Medal and the Colour Party on Parade 1960-1988. Bob died on October 15, 2000. DANIELS, Wilfred George “Wilf” WWI Wilf was born on October 10, 1884 in Hertfordshire, England. He came to Saskatchewan in 1905, first to Whitewood then to the Plunkett area where he homesteaded. In 1910, he married Eva Jeffery from Viscount, SK and they raised four sons, Bill, Stanley, Jack and Lester, who later all served in WWII. Wilf joined the Army in Saskatoon, SK on December 16, 1915 and served as a Regimental Sergeant with the 96th Highlanders in France and Passchendaele, due to his experience as a town constable. The 96th later became part of the 48th Highlanders of Canada. In January 1917, Wilf was sent to France where he was acting Sergeant Major. While serving in France, he received the Distinguished Canadian Military Medal and in April 1919, returned to Canada. Wilf died on December 30, 1990 at 106 years young, a dedicated community minded man.
