The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 139 FLEMING, William George “Bill” WWII Bill was born in 1916 in Meacham, SK. He grew up on the family farm and went to York School, just east of Meacham. Bill and his brother, Ken, volunteered for the Armed Forces and they served overseas in the same unit, the Tank Corps, 1st Hussars. Bill married Nellie and they moved to Keatley to work. Retired, they now live in Unity, SK. FLEMING, William Stanley “Joe” WWII Joe was born in Meacham, SK on November 26, 1920. In the Fleming family, three brothers all had children named William, after a grandfather, hence the aka ‘Joe’. He grew up on the family farm and joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1940, serving as an aero-engine mechanic, mainly at Mountain View, ON. After the war, he married June Taylor and raised three children in Ontario. He had a taxi cab business for five years, then rejoined the Air Force in about 1950 and served for three years in Germany with the Occupation Forces. He also served in Canada as a mechanic and instructor at Camp Borden, ON. He was a cousin to Bill and Ken Fleming and his cousins, Joyce and Edna Woolley, also enlisted. FODOR, Albert WWII Albert was born in Plunkett, SK in 1916. He attended Plunkett School and farmed in the area. He joined the Army and his brother, Alex, joined the Navy. Albert passed away in 1977.
