The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 45 BELLAMY, Ernest William “Bill” WWI Bill was born in Toft, Lincolnshire, England in 1890 and came to Canada in 1913. He tried to enlist in 1914 but was rejected due to an eye injury, so he went back to England to sign up. He joined the British Army and served in the Cavalry in France. He married Ethel Else in 1916. After the war, he returned home with his bride and one son and they then raised ten children. They worked in Colonsay and then Viscount, Saskatchewan where he farmed and also served on the town council. They eventually moved to Chilliwack, BC where they spent their remaining years. BELLAMY, Stanley “Stan” WWII Stanley was born in England but grew up on a farm near Viscount, SK. His family moved to Chilliwack, BC in 1944. With his brother, Arthur, he enlisted in the Army and served as a Private in France where he fought in the Dieppe Raid. After his discharge, Stan lived at Langley, BC. BENELL, Carl H. WWII Carl was a high school principal before enlisting in the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1939. He served overseas as a Flight Lieutenant then after his discharge, resumed his teaching career and lived in Victoria, British Columbia until he died in 1978. He married Emma Estok from Plunkett, SK and they raised two children.
