Saskatchewan.ca Commemorating the First WorldWar We will remember the men and women who bravely served our province and our nation during the First WorldWar The names of 1,200 Saskatchewan citizens who sacrificed their lives during the war were added to the Honour Roll on the Saskatchewan FirstWorldWar Memorial August 4, 2014, to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the beginning of the FirstWorldWar. Additionally, two four-year displays paying tribute to those who served in the FirstWorldWar are located on the second level in the Legislative Building until the 100th anniversary of the armistice in 2018. The displays include the Battalion Colours of Saskatchewan’s 28th North-West Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force and a virtual display, From the Prairies to the Trenches, created by Saskatchewan Archives. The Saskatchewan Virtual War Memorial is available online at svwm.ca. Saskatchewan’s FirstWorldWar casualties are also recognized through the Government of Saskatchewan’s GeoMemorial Program. The GeoMemorial Program commemorates those who lost their lives by naming geographic features such as lakes and rivers in their honour.

This is the 8th edition of the yearly production of this commemorative book honouring Canada’s Veterans of the past and present. I would like to extend my thanks to those Legion Branches, family members and individuals who have submitted pictures and military information that has made the production of this book a success. I also encourage all Legion Branches and members to submit pictures and stories of family members and acquaintances that are veterans that have not been featured in our books previously. Submission forms are available from the Saskatchewan Command Office in Regina by calling 306.525.8739 or email: sasklegion@sasktel.net or via our website at www.sasklegion.com. A submission form is at the back of this book as well. Canvassing for donations for our next edition is already underway, so if your members and citizens throughout the community get a call, you will know what it is all about.
