The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 65 BJORE (SIMPSON), Ruby WWII Ruby joined the Army during World War II and served with the Canadian Women’s Army Corps. BLACK (COTTON), Jean Marion WWII Jean joined the Royal Canadian Air Force on January 25, 1943 and trained at the War Emergency Training School in Saskatoon. She was posted to Mont-Joli, Quebec at #9 Bombing and Gunnery School as an orderly. She then went to Scoudouc, New Brunswick and later to Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. Corporal Black was discharged on January 18, 1946. BLONDEAU, Maurice KOREA Maurice was born in 1932 in Fort Qu’Appelle/Lebret and he joined the Army on January 7, 1951 when he was 18 years old. He served with the Canadian Army Special Forces/129, AA Battery, 1st Royal Canadian House Artillery. Maurice volunteered to go to Korea with the first advance group and when they arrived in Inchon, he got his first taste of being shot at. After traveling all over Korea, Maurice said that his happiest day was on March 17, 1953 when he returned to Canada. He left the Army in 1957. Maurice remarked in the Book of Remembrance for Métis Veterans that he was happy to have fought for his country, our country.
