The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 17 ALLAN, Colin Campbell WWII Colin was born in 1919 in Creelman, Saskatchewan. He joined the South Saskatchewan Regiment in Estevan in November 1940 and served from 1940 to 1946 with the Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers in Canada, the United Kingdom, the Mediterranean area and Continental Europe, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. His brother Donald served with the South Saskatchewan Regiment. After the war, Colin returned to farming in Creelman and married Edith Laderoute in October 1946. He was a member of Stoughton Legion Branch 133 for thirty years before he died in 1987. ALLAN, Donald Stewart WWII Donald was born in Creelman, Saskatchewan in 1913. He joined the South Saskatchewan Regiment in March 1940 and trained in Canada and England before landing at Dieppe on August 19, 1942. Although wounded, he provided machine gun covering fire of evacuating troops then was forced to swim into the English Channel where he was rescued. He returned to the Continent after D-Day as a Company Sergeant Major. In early 1944 in The Netherlands, as his company became surrounded and cut off and with his Commander absent, Donald took control and turned what could have been an ugly defeat into a victory. For this, he was awarded a Distinguished Conduct Medal. He returned to Canada in 1945 as Acting Regimental Sergeant Major, moved to Prince George, British Columbia and married Kathleen Dickey. In 1971, Donald retired to Invermere and passed away on October 1, 2002. He was a member of Invermere Legion Branch 71. His brother Colin served with the Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers in WWII. ALLAN, James Edward PEACETIME James was born in Regina, Saskatchewan in 1948. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and served in Canada at 4 Wing CFB Cold Lake in Alberta and the 1st Service Battalion CFB in Calgary, serving from August 1969 to October 1974. James enlisted in Regina in August 1969 and attended basic training in Cornwallis, Nova Scotia. He also attended CFATS in Borden, Ontario where he graduated from the Metals Technician course in May 1970. He played hockey with the CFB Cold Lake Packers, winning the National Championship in 1972. James married Norma Ilene Sim in August 1973 and is now retired in Invermere, British Columbia. He has been a member of Saskatchewan’s Stoughton Legion Branch 133 for over two years.
