The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 177 ERICKSON, Arnold Thomas WWII Arnold enlisted in the Army and served with the Calgary Tank Regiment and the Strathcona Horse, 5th Division, in Malta and Sicily. He was one of the few survivors of a direct hit to the tank he was riding in. ERICKSON, Edward WWII Edward enlisted in the Canadian Army and served during World War II. ESTABROOKS, Bill WWII Bill was born in 1916 in Gull Lake. He met his wife Beatrice when she was staying at his parent’s farm while she taught school in Gull Lake. While helping his father on the farm, they soon fell in love and they married on December 25, 1940. Soon after, Bill applied for the Air Force but was not accepted. He traveled to Moose Jaw with Beatrice and took a machinist course at the technical school. In December 1941, he enlisted with the Army and spent time in Regina before moving to a military training camp in Ottawa. Less than a year later on August 28, 1942, Beatrice received a telegram stating that Bill had been injured and was in the hospital in Toronto, Ontario. Bill passed away on that same day. He is buried in the Gull Lake Cemetery.
