He joined the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in 1971 and served as a Staff Sergeant until he left the service in 2008. CLARKE, James Reed WWII James was born on January 29, 1922. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1941 and served during World War II until 1946. James passed away on September 22, 2005. CLARKE, Leonard James WWII Leonard was born in Regina, Saskatchewan in 1918. He joined the Army during World War II and served with the South Saskatchewan Regiment in Canada, Britain and Northwest Europe. He was wounded in action in the upper arm on August 28, 1944 in France and was again wounded on October 13, 1944 in Holland where he lost his left leg. He was awarded in 1939-45 Star, the France and Germany Star, the Defence Medal, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp and the War Medal 1939-45. Leonard returned to Saskatchewan in 1945 and took up farming at Smeaton. Leonard and his wife Lily raised five children and farmed for 30 years. He was a member of Smeaton Legion Branch 319 for thirty-one years before he died of a heart attack in May 1977 at the age of 58.
