When Comrade Ron Goebel created this initiative “so many years ago” it is immensely satisfying to see that it is still around and remains strong “so many years later”. A true testament to the hard work and dedication shown by Comrade Ron over all of those years in producing such a fine and popular publication that focuses on featuring all of our veterans, men and women, who have served, and paid the supreme sacrifice in some cases, in the Armed Forces of this great country of ours we call Canada. After all of those years, and not trying to date Comrade Ron, he has decided to hand over the reins to another, and that lucky person would be Comrade Rae Ann Bauman. As a long time member of District C I have known Comrade Rae Ann for many years now and I know she will work very hard to make sure the MSRB Book will stay the high quality publication that we have all come to know and appreciate. The best of luck to you comrade Rae Ann you will do a great job and congratulations. Thank you to all of those branches in Ontario Command that have MSRB Committees and continue to work tirelessly gathering up the many MSRB submissions it takes to fill one of these books. In saying that, we can still do better. Those branches that have never considered getting involved please think again. The money raised from the printing of these books goes towards the many Veteran Transition Programs and Legion Programs that we have, every dollar earned really counts and makes a difference. To date over the last 12 years this publication has raised over $2,208,988.52, quite a staggering amount. 7 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND A MESSAGE FROMTHE CHAIR RON GOEBEL We at Ontario Provincial Command are both happy and proud to introduce you to our Volume #12 book. A book that is dedicated to honour Military Veterans within the Province of Ontario for their service and sacrifice. For the past 12 years, I have been honoured to have served as the Chair of this Veteran’s program in being able to bring to you photographs and short biographies of over 7500 Veterans who have resided within this great Province of ours. Our books of Remembrance are living testaments of the courage, sacrifice and commitment that has been given to our country by the Veterans that we have showcased in our various books of Remembrance. We thank them and all Veterans for their service in order that we may enjoy the freedoms that we so freely enjoy today. During these 12 years, through revenues received from advertisers and generous donations received from donors through telephone solicitation, Ontario Command has received in excess of $2.2 million dollars. Funds that have assisted our Command to support various Veteran transition programs that we continue to support within Ontario Command. This message is somewhat difficult for me to be writing, since this will be the last message that I will be writing for these books. I find that after 12 years, it is time to be passing the torch and I will be stepping down as the Chair. I have much solace in the knowledge that I will be leaving this position in very good hands. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our Branches within our Command who have worked diligently in providing Veteran submissions for our books over these past 12 years.Your dedication, support, and cooperation towards the success of this very important program is certainly appreciated. I ask that you continue to keep up the good work. Special thanks to our two Provincial Coordinators Carolyn McCaul and Rae Ann Bauman, our District Coordinators, District Commanders, Zone Commanders, the staff at Ontario Command, our Provincial President, members of our Ladies’ Auxiliary, and all of my fellow Senior Elected Officers of Ontario Command. It is only through everyone’s continued efforts that we have continued to be successful in telling the story about our Veterans, both past and present, in communities across this great Province of ours. I am certain that this important Remembrance program will continue for many years to come and that we will continue to have Veterans and family members of Veterans submit submissions for our books. The Poster being depicted was the 1st place winner in the Senior Black and White Poster category at the Provincial level. It was designed by student Nancy Ge of Laurel Heights Secondary School in Waterloo Ontario. She represented the Waterloo Ontario Legion Branch 530 in District C in our Legion Branch competitions.

17 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND ADAIR, Robin George Robin was born on September 18, 1916, in Trenton, Ontario. He joined the Army (Regular Force) with the RCASC in Kingston, Ontario and went overseas in August 1941, leaving his wife and two children home. He was stationed at Aldershot, Horsham, Hurst Green, and East Ham. He took an Elec course at East Ham Tech School. He was at “D-Day”, Juno Beach, Normandy, through Caen, Falaise, Doodle Bug Base VI, Calais, Reichwald Forest, Belgium, Holland, and Germany. Robin did guard duty on Submarine Base near Oldenburg after the war ended. He then went to Groningen and near war’s end in the spring, crossed the Rhine to South Beveland to Walcheren. He spent the winter and Christmas 1944 in Nijmegen on Rhine. He received an honourable discharge in October 1945. Robin was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch Consecon 509, was made a Life Member in 1983, and was past President of Branch 509. He was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal in 1984. Robin passed away on September 8, 2006. ALDCORN, Benjamin “Neil” Neil was born in Priceville, Grey County, Ontario, on October 7, 1915, to William and Annabella MacKinnon Aldcorn. He was the third son born and he and his four brothers all served in World War II. Neil served for four and a half years with the RCAF Police in Canada. He married Kathleen Burnett in 1943 and lived in Priceville, Ontario. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Durham Branch 308. Neil passed away on May 13, 1987 and is buried in McNeil Cemetery in Grey County, Priceville, Ontario. ALDCORN, Charles John Charles was born in Priceville, Ontario, Grey County, Ontario on June 29, 1913, to William and Annabella MacKinnon Aldcorn. He was the eldest of four brothers who all served in World War II. Charles served with the Royal Canadian Air Force (Regular Force) from 1941 to 1945 in Canada and Newfoundland. After the war, he was employed by Maple Leaf Mills Limited from 1946 to 1978. He married Ellen Isobel MacMillan in 1947 and resided in Toronto, moving to Priceville in 1950. Charles passed away on December 25, 1992 and is buried in Swinton Park Cemetery in Swinton Park, Ontario, Grey County.
