85 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND CURRIE, Ronald Brooke Ronald was born in Paddockwood, Saskatchewan on June 16, 1944. He started his career as a Signalman with the First Canadian Signals Regiment on September 17, 1963, and finished after 26 years as a Major in NDHQ in September 1989. Ronald calls BTelO in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan his best posting. He has been residing in Stittsville, Ontario since 1980 and is a 35-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Stittsville Branch 618. CWIERTNIEWSKI, Wojciech Wojciech was born on October 1, 1923, in Chylin, Poland. On June 29, 1939, he joined the Association of Riflemen in Chylin and was sent to the 7th Rifle Regiment Artillery School for training. In September 1939, as the Germans advanced into Poland, he was guarding vital points in Chylin. Wojciech was taken by the Germans on September 17 and sent to a forced labour stalag in Germany. He was held in forced labour until liberated by American troops. After liberation, he served with the US Army’s 4207th Labor Service Company in Mannheim as Private Wojciech Cwiertniewski. He was released on April 8, 1945. Wojciech immigrated to Canada in 1951 and settled in St. Catharines, Ontario in 1952. He was employed by General Motors for 33 years until his retirement. For his dedicated service during and after the war, the Polish Government awarded Wojciech the September 1939 Campaign Volunteer Cross and the Gold Medal of Merit. He was a 43-year Life Member of Polish Veterans Branch 418 of The Royal Canadian Legion holding several positions on the executive over the years. He was also an avid participant in the Branch 418 Band and Choir. Wojciech passed away on November 5, 1997. DAHMER, Alfred Herbert Alfred was born on July 27, 1921 in Atwood, ON. He enlisted in the Canadian Army on August 12, 1942 and served in England and Continental Europe during World War II. Lance Corporal Dahmer was discharged on July 10, 1946 and was awarded the 1939-45 Star, the France and Germany Star, the Defense Medal, and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp. He was a member of Captain Fred Campbell, V.C. Legion Branch 134 for seventy years. Alfred passed away on November 11, 2007.
