49 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND BURNETT, Robert Graham Robert was born on July 31, 1919, in Echo Bay, Ontario, a small community east of Sault Ste. Marie, to Jannette and Samual Burnett. He enlisted in the Army (Regular Force) on July 30, 1940, and joined the Queen’s Own Rifles of Canada. Rifleman Robert Burnett was killed in action on D-Day on June 6, 1944. He is buried at the Beny-sur-Mer Canadian Cemetery in Normandy; France and his name is inscribed on the Echo Bay Cenotaph. CALDECOTT, Hary William Harry was born on June 14, 1892, in Cambridge, England, to Harry William and Alice Caldecott, along with one sibling, Rose. Prior toWorldWar I, he served three years with the Territorials and worked in the painting trade. Harry enlisted in Woodstock, Ontario on April 4, 1916, with the 168th Battalion. After seven months of basic training, his unit embarked from Halifax on November 1, 1916. During the trip to England, Harry was laid up with a severe cold which turned into pneumonia. They disembarked in Liverpool on November 11, 1916. When he was discharged from hospital on December 5, 1916 they transferred him to the 12th Battalion where he received further training. He was sent to the battlefield, where he was injured on December 13, 1917 by shrapnel. After recovery, he was sent back to Canada and discharged on March 21, 1919. He returned to his trade of painting, enjoyed art, and playing darts and euchre. Harry Caldecott was the father of four children; Austin, Dorothy, Helen and Robert. Harry died on May 16, 1976 and is laid to rest in Innerkip, Ontario. His service is remembered by his family. CAMPBELL, Henry J. Henry was born in Hunters Mountain, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia on October 17, 1933. He enlisted in the Canadian Army (Regular Force) on March 1, 1954, and served with the Canadian Guards, Royal Canadian Regiment. He served in Soest, Germany from 1957 to 1959 and in Cyprus from 1965 to 1966. He rebadged to Royal Canadian Regiment in 1973. Henry retired with the rank of Warrant Officer in 1975. He was awarded the Special Service Medal, Peace Keeping Medal, Commemorative Medal for the 125th Anniversary of Confederation, and the Canadian Forces Decoration. He married Jean in 1956 and had two children. After his discharge on September 18, 1975, he worked as front store manager at Rowans IDA Drug Store in Pembroke, Ontario for seventeen years. He was an active member of The Royal Canadian Legion Pembroke Branch 72 for 53 years and served on Branch Executive, Branch President and as Past Branch President; and was also a Life Member. He was also Branch, Zone, District and Provincial Public Relations Officer and was a member on Dominion Command PR Committee. Henry passed away on August 26, 2024.
