173 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND HARRISON, Clarence Clarence was born on March 12, 1897, in Egremont Township, Ontario. He was a lifelong resident of Proton and Egremont townships. Clarence enlisted in September 1918 at the age of 21 with the 1st Battalion 2nd Central Ontario Regiment. His rank was Pte Corps 2nd CGR. He served in Canada and was discharged from the army on January 14, 1919. He returned to the family farm and married Agnes Jean Weir. They had a son and a daughter. Clarence passed away on April 12, 1985. HARRISON, Orval Thomas Orval was born on December 13, 1921 in Egremont Township, Grey County, Ontario, to John Carl and Laura McKelvey Harrison. Orval enlisted in the Army (Regular Force) in December 1942 and went overseas in August 1943. He spent ten months in England then transferred to France shortly after D-Day, then to Belgium and Holland where he was wounded in November 1944 being shot by a sniper in the left ear. He returned to Holland and was killed in action on February 28, 1945. Orval is buried in Groesbeek Canadian War Cemetery in Gelderland, Netherlands. He is remembered at the Amos Presbyterian Cemetery in Dromore, Grey County, Ontario. HARRISON, Russell Robert Russell was born May 13, 1883, on St. Joseph Island, east of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario to William and Mary (Nolen) Harrison. His attestation document lists him as a farmer. He enrolled in the Army (Regular Force) with the 119th Overseas Battalion on March 20, 1916. Russell sailed from Halifax to England on August 8, 1916. Pte. Russell Harrison was assigned to the 124th Battalion and was sent to France. His military records indicate that he was given permission to marry in May 1919. At the dedication of the Richards Landing cenotaph in 1919, he was presented with a gold watch by the citizens of St. Joseph Township. Russell was discharged on September 18, 1919 with the trade of driver. He returned to civilian life and passed away in Sault Ste. Marie and is interred in Greenwood Cemetery in that city.
