83 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND CROFT, Glenard Joseph Glenard was born on January 15, 1921, in Rock Mills, Artemesia. He enlisted in World War II on September 19, 1942 and served with the 4th Royal Canadian Artillery and Anti-Tank 5th Division. He was deployed overseas to the United Kingdom and Continental Europe. Glen was discharged in 1945 and was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 333. He was a lifelong resident of Flesherton and passed away on May 18, 2005. CROSBY, Ralph Burnett Ralph was born inYarmouth, NS on November 26, 1924. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force on November 29, 1942 and served in England during World War II. He was discharged on May 18, 1945. Ralph was a member of Port Colborne and Humberstone Legion Branch 56 until he passed away on October 24, 2009. CRUIKSHANK, John Theodore John was born on October 31, 1896, in Paisley, Ontario, to James and Mary Cruikshank. At some time, the family moved to St. Joseph Island east of Sault Ste. Marie. His attestation document shows that he was a farmer at the time of his enrolment in the Army (Regular Force) with the 119th Overseas Battalion on January 24, 1916. John was shipped overseas and arrived in England on August 19, 1916. He went to France on June 11, 1918 with the 52nd Battalion, Manitoba Regiment. Pte. John Cruikshank was discharged on March 28, 1919. At the dedication of the Richards Landing cenotaph in 1919, he was presented with a gold watch by the citizens of St. Joseph Township. In 1924, he married Mary Matheson in Sudbury. The 1931 Canadian Census, Sault Ste. Marie, shows John’s trade as a barber. John passed away on November 21, 1976, inWoodstock, Ontario.
