77 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND CRAIG, Andrew Andrew was born in Glasgow, Scotland on May 23, 1915. He enlisted in the Royal Air Force on June 20, 1935 and served with Bomber Commandas a belly gunner in the Bristol Blenheim. He served in the United Kingdom and the Middle East during World War II. Andrew was discharged on January 8, 1946. He was a member of Midland Legion Branch 80 for 25years. Andrew passed away on February 7, 2004. CRAWFORD, Leonard Francis “Len” Len was born in Oshawa, Ontario on April 26, 1924. He enlisted in the Army (Regular Force) onApril 26, 1943 and served with the Princess Louise IV Dragoon Guards in Italy and Holland until the end of the war. As a dispatch rider, Len singlehandedly forced nine German soldiers to surrender in Holland during World War II. Returning to civilian life in Oshawa, he retired from the City of Oshawa after 32 years of service. He and his wife Gladys moved to Harcourt Park near Wilberforce. Len spent hours in his grader, tractor and truck improving the roads of Harcourt Park, winter and summer. In recognition of his 31 years of service to the Park, they renamed one of the roads Len Crawford Drive. Len was a dedicated member of The Royal Canadian Legion Wilberforce Branch 624, in his last years serving as Sergeant at Arms. He also enjoyed speaking to school children about World War II at Remembrance Day. In 1999, Legion Branch 624 dedicated a banquet room the “Len Crawford Room” for his many years of service. Len was a great family man who served his country and community with honour. Len passed away on September 19, 2016. CRAWFORD, Robert J. Robert was born on July 3, 1943 in Kapuskasing, ON. He enlisted in the Canadian Army in September 1960 and served with the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals in Canada and Cyprus. He was sent to Quebec city as a result of the Front de libération uprising and ended up providing security for Premier Bourassa and his family. Master Corporal Crawford was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp and the Canadian Forces Decoration. He was a member of Kapuskasing Legion Branch 85 for 3 years. Robert passed away on March 10, 1980.
