93 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND DAVIS, Henry C. Henry was born on January 16, 1921 in Wiarton, ON. He enlisted in the Canadian Army on June 9, 1940 and served with the Highland Light Infantry of Canada in the United Kingdom and Continental Europe. Sergeant Davis was discharged on October 9, 1945. After the war, he worked in London before returning to Tobermory where he served as postmaster for almost thirty years. He was awarded the 1939-45 Star, the France and Germany Star, the Defense Medal, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp, and the 1939-45 War Medal. He was a member of Tobermory Legion Branch 290. Henry passed away on June 21, 2009. DAWSON, Melville Deblois Melville was born in Bathurst, New Brunswick on November 29, 1838, and learned the trade of printing from his father, Benj Dawson. He moved to St. Louis in the states to continue learning his trade. Finally, he moved to London, Ontario with his family and worked with the London Free Press. Later, he started his own newspaper, London Advertiser. He became a member of the I.O.O.F. Lodge (Odd Fellows). He joined the Army (Regular Force) with the 7th Fusiliers back in 1864, became Captain in 1873, and was appointed Lt. Col. in 1876 in charge of the military stores located in Victoria Park, London and paymaster for southwestern Ontario. He received the long service medal with one clasp as a veteran of the Fenian Raid of 1866 and was at Ridgeway. Melville passed away on December 29, 1909. DAYMAN, Brian Donald Brian was born on December 29, 1950, in Clinton, Ontario and was raised as a rural country boy. He graduated in June 1969 from Walkerton District Secondary School in Science Trades and Technology. His military history includes: 411 Army Cadet Corps from September 1965 to June 1969, Summer camp training at CFB Ipperwash, CFB Woseley Baracks and Banff Alberta Cadet Camp reaching the rank of Cadet Major. He was in the Canadian Armed Forces Reserves, 21st Field Artillery Regiment from September 1967 to March 1970, trained at CFB Petawawa, CFB Borden, CFB Meaford, CFB Ipperwash and CFB Shilo. He was released as a Bombardier (Corporal) when the 21st FieldArtillery Regiment was disbanded by the Federal Government. His employment consisted of Road Construction, Casualty Care Attendant with the Fergus Ambulance Service, Tanker Driver for Shell Oil Ltd in Oakville, Fire Prevention Officer, University of Guelph Fire Division, Firefighter/Captain, Rockwood/Eramosa Fire Service, Equipment Operator, Greenock Twp/Brockton until retiring in 2010. He married Corinne Alexander on May 19, 1973, and they have two boys and four grandchildren. Brian resides in Cargill and is a member of The Royal Canadian Legion.
