She enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force and served with the Royal CanadianAir ForceWomen’s Division in England. She was a member of Simcoe Legion Branch 79 for four years. Mary passed away on May 31, 1991. DESJARDINS, Dexter J.G. Dexter was born on May 11, 1940, in Timmins, Ontario. He enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces in September 1961 and joined the Royal Canadian Armoured Corps. He served with the Lord Strathcona’s Horse (Royal Canadians) (LdSH (RC)), the Royal Canadian Dragoons (RCD) and the 12e Régiment Blindé du Canada. Dexter was deployed in Cyprus and Afghanistan and also served in Lahr, Germany. He was released in August 1971. Dexter has been residing in Alexandria since 2006 and has been a member of Claude Nunney V. C. Memorial Legion Branch 544 for more than five years. DOERING, Adam Andrew Adam was born in Philipsburg, Ontario on October 4, 1897, toAdam and Elizabeth (Axt), along with seven siblings; Frieda (Frank), Ella (Rabethge), Eugenia (Hackbart), Reinhardt, Austin, Gordon, and Howard. Adam received his Military Service Act letter #744104 AC (drafted) to report to the 1st Depot Battalion in London, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army (Regular Force) on May 17, 1918 with the Western Ontario Regiment and after basic training, his unit boarded the SS Pannonia in Halifax on July 26, 1918 and were on their way to England arriving in Witley. Adam was transferred to the 4th Reserve Battalion. He was hospitalized on November 8, 1918 at Camp Surrey with high fever and laryngitis, then moved to the #12 Canadian Hospital in Bramshott. He was discharged from hospital on December 18, 1918. He was shipped back to Canada and discharged on September 20, 1919 in London and then returned to his home in Philipsburg. Adam died on March 24, 1920 due to complications from a workplace accident. He is buried in Zion Evangelical Cemetery in Philipsburg, Ontario. His service is remembered by his great niece, Carol (Frank) Merner.
