75 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND COX, William James William was born in Hespeler, Ontario on December 10, 1923, the second youngest in a large family originating from Cox’s Cove, Newfoundland. He joined the military at the age of nineteen in November 1942 and deployed to Italy in February 1944 where he served as a signalman in the Signal Corps. Bill was wounded by shelling in the summer of 1944 and hospitalized. After a couple of months, he recovered and returned to duty, giving the ultimate sacrifice of his life on December 15, 1944. He is buried in Ravenna, Italy. COX, William Robert William was born in St. Bernard, NL on October 5, 1920. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy and served during World War II. William passed away on April 5, 2008. COXSON, Donald Robert Donald was born in Haysville, Ontario on May 7, 1925, to Delton and Bessie Irene (Nahrgang), along with sister, Kathleen Shirley (Thibideau) and brother, Kenneth. Don attended both public and high school in New Hamburg. Shortly after turning nineteen years of age, in May 1944, he enlisted with the Royal Canadian Air Force (Regular Force) and was put through the rigours of basic training at bases in Manitoba at Brandon and Winnipeg. The war was winding down and he was kept busy in Canada until his discharge in March 1946. Donald married Rita (Zoeller) and they raised three children, Constance (McInnis), Deborah (Gravill) and Douglas. He was employed with National Defence, with duties and responsibilities as Contract Compliance Inspector. Don joined in with other Veterans fromWilmot Township and were instrumental in being awarded a charter to be Branch 532 New Hamburg, Ontario to the Royal Canadian Legion. Donald was a founding, active member with 59 continuous years of service. He passed away on April 24, 2011 and is laid to rest in Riverside Cemetery in New Hamburg.
