59 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND CODLING, Tyler J. Tyler was born in Humboldt, Saskatchewan on July 24, 1975. He enrolled in the RCMP Professional Responsibility Sector on November 26, 2001. He trained in Regina, Saskatchewan and served in Haines Junction, Watson Lake, and Whitehorse, YT; Toronto and Hamilton, Ontario; Hay River, NWT; and Gleichen and Airdrie, Alberta. He was commissioned in 2020 at Fort McMurray, Alberta and currently serves as a grievance adjudicator at NHQ in Ottawa. Tyler is a twoyear member of The Royal Canadian Legion West Carleton Branch 616 and has been residing in Constance Bay since 2022. COLE, Chester David Chester was born in Georgetown, Ontario on June 11, 1887, to Jacob Cole and Rebecca (McGuire). He had one brother, Wilfred. He married Barbara Ellen “Nellie” (Sutherland) and they had five boys; Herman, Lloyd, Roy, Lawrence, and Chester. He was in the printing trade but when the call for arms went out, Chester enlisted in the Army (Regular Force) with the 164th Battalion on January 18, 1916 in Georgetown. After basic training, his unit boarded the SS Carpathia and arrived in England on April 22, 1917. Chester was transferred to the 2nd Canadian Reserve Battalion on April 26, 1918. After severe bouts of tonsilitis, Chester was sent to West Cliff Hospital in Folkestone for surgery. When released for active duty, he served in England for the duration of the war. He was discharged on May 17, 1919 and later became foreman at the Georgetown Herald. In 1929, he opened his own printing shop in Toronto where he worked with three of his sons. Chester enjoyed family trips to Huntsville, fishing and pitching horseshoes. He was a faithful member of St. George’s Church in Georgetown where he sang in the choir. After an extended illness, he died at St. Joseph Hospital in Toronto on March 8, 1944 and is buried in Greenwood Cemetery in Georgetown. COLE, Thomas Henry “Tom” Tom was born on January 16, 1910, in Gloster Borough, County of Gloster England and immigrated to Canada in his early teens, working for farmers in the Nestleton area. During World War II, he worked in munitions in Ajax, Ontario and from there he enlisted in the Canadian Infantry Corp serving overseas in the United Kingdon, Central Mediterranean and Continental Europe. He was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, 1939-1945 Star, Italy Star, France and Germany Star and Defence Medal. In October 1940, he returned to Canada with the 48th Highlanders and took a carpentry course in Hamilton. On April 20, 1946, he married Genevieve Beacock and lived in Oshawa until her death in 1990. They had no children. He was a member of Simcoe Street United Church in Oshawa, Ontario. Tom passed away October 4, 1990. He is buried in the Beacock Family plot at Cartwright Union Cemetery, Blackstock. Ontario.
