139 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND GALBRAITH, Alvin C. Alvin was born on April 1, 1923, in Coldwater, Ontario. He enlisted in the Canadian Army on November 6, 1942 and served with the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders in Great Britain, France and Holland during World War II. Corporal Galbraith was in the Netherlands just after the liberation. He was trained as a radio operator. After returning from the War, Alvin married and settled in Coldwater and worked as an auto mechanic. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Coldwater Branch 270. Alvin passed away on August 16, 1987. GALBRAITH, Nelson Douglas Nelson was born on May 30, 1895, in Providence Bay, Ontario. He enlisted in the Canadian Army on November 9, 1917 and served with the 1st Central Ontario Regiment in France during World War I. Nelson passed away on December 28, 1967. GANDER, George W.J. George was born on August 22, 1910, in Niagara Falls, Ontario He enlisted in the Canadian Army on January 9, 1924 and served with various regiments in England, Belgium, Holland, and Germany during World War II. He disembarked on the continent on June 15, 1944 and was wounded in action on June 29. He served as Canadian Officer on loan to the British Army and, following recovery of wounds, returned to Canadian Army and served in Holland, and Germany. After the surrender of Germany, he served in the Army of Occupation. George continued to serve in various regiments of the Canadian Army until May 1962. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion HT Church Branch 24, General Nelles Branch 124 and Centennial Branch 612. Captain George Gander passed away on December 27, 1979.
