29 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND BARRONS, Harry Thomas Harry was born on December 29, 1918, in Cordova Mines, Ontario. His parents were George and Lena Barrons. Before the war, Harry worked as a farmer in Belmont Township, Peterborough County. He enlisted in the Army (Regular Force) on October 15, 1940 in Peterborough. He completed basic training at Peterborough No. 32 Training Centre but never went overseas. Every six months, he would return to Peterborough for re-evaluation then be granted personal leave to return to farm work. During this time, he received permission from his commanding officer to marry Edna May Jackson. Harry was discharged from service on September 14, 1945, in Kingston. After the war, he continued to live on the farm north of Cordova Mines. He and Edna had three children: David, Ronald, and Elaine. Harry passed away on October 19, 1989, in Marmora Township, Hastings County and is buried in Maple Grove Cemetery, in Havelock, Ontario. BARTLETT, William William was born on November 25, 1898, in Echo Bay, Ontario, a small community east of Sault Ste. Marie, to Elisabeth and John Bartlett. On January 28, 1916, he enlisted in the Army (Regular Force) with the 119th Overseas Battalion and was later transferred to the 73rd Battalion Canadian Infantry (Royal Highlanders of Canada). On February 4, 1917, Private William Bartlett was presumed dead. Because his body was never recovered, his name is inscribed on the Vimy Memorial in Vimy, France. His name is also inscribed on the Echo Bay Cenotaph. BARTLEY, Clarence Neil Clarence was born on March 8, 1903, in Grey County, Ontario. He was married in 1934. He enlisted in the Army (Regular Force) with the Grey and Simcoe Foresters. While Clarence was on duty overseas, he learned of his wife’s death via cablegram. She was 34 years old and passed away from a brain tumor. They had two children. Clarence passed away in 1972.
