101 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND DOUGLAS, Donald Banbury Douglas was born on October 10, 1921, in Edmonton, Alberta. His grandparents Jesse and Jane Banbury ran a livery in Aurora, Ontario. Douglas enlisted in the Air Force (Regular Force) on January 3, 1941. On August 25, 1941, with No. 2 Air Navigation School in Pennfield Ridge, NB, Donald was engaged in a routine nighttime training flight serving as wireless operator and was forced to abandon Anson 2397 by parachute when the plane had exhausted all fuel and was unable to safely land. All five-crew survived. Douglas was commissioned Pilot on September 25, 1942, at No. 13 SFTS St. Hubert and over the next couple years completed a number of operations with Ferry command to Africa and forty flights with Cost Command. On January 9, while posted with 235 Squadron RAF in Banffshire, Scotland, Douglas took Mosquito HR159 on a test flight and it stalled and spun into a farmhouse in Hopeton killing Donald and his passenger. DOUPE, John J. John was born on November 27, 1936 in Campbellford, ON. He enlisted in the Canadian Army on June 11, 1954 and served with the Royal Canadian Dragoons. He was discharged on July 10, 1956. He was a member of Port Perry Legion Branch 419 for 45 years. John passed away on September 21, 2010. DOYON, Edward L. Edward was born in Montreal, QC on December 8, 1921. He enlisted in the Canadian Army in 1944 and served during World War II. Sergeant Doyon was in a boat going overseas when they found out he spoke both English and French and so they rerouted Edward back to Farnham, QC to train the troops to march. He was a member of White River Legion Branch 169. Edward passed away on May 10, 2010.
