169 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND HALPIN, Gary Ross Gary was born in St. Thomas, Ontario on May 26, 1953. He enlisted in the Army (Reserve Force) in 1972 and served in Canada with the Elgin Regiment. After his discharge in 1975, Garry took employment with a large automobile industry in Talbot, Ontario. Gary continues to reside in St. Thomas. He has been a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 41 and 410 for a total of 31 years. HAMILTON, Deloss Almar Deloss Almar Hamilton was born in Woodbridge, Ontario on January 29, 1896, to Thomas and Ann Elizabeth (Robertson) Hamilton as per his birth registration. He passed his medical on October 16, 1917, in Toronto after being called up under the MSA. At the time he showed his date of birth as October 29, 1895. He returned to farming after his medical and was recalled and attested at Niagara-on-the-Lake on June 5, 1918. After brief training, he embarked for England on July 19, and completed further training at Seaford Camp where he was attached to the 3rd Canadian Engineers Reserves. During his short time in the service, he became completely deaf and nearly died from influenza during February and March 1919. He returned to Canada and was medically discharged on June 11, 1919. He opened a garage in Woodbridge and listed his occupation as “mechanic”. He married Phyllis May Rawlings on September 9, 1921, and they had one daughter, Audrey. He was a member in good standing of The Royal Canadian Woodbridge Branch 414 for more than twenty years. Deloss passed away in Brampton on July 13, 1977, and is buried in Glendale Cemetery, Etobicoke. HAMILTON, John Leonard John was born in Wiarton, Ontario on October 21, 1888, to William James and Mable Hamilton. He was a mechanic by trade when he joined the Army (Regular Force) on September 17, 1918 with the 1st Depot Battalion, Canadian Railway Troops in Sussex, New Brunswick. While in England, he got pneumonia and died in the military hospital in Devon Port on October 12, 1918. He is buried in Plymouth (Efford) Cemetery in Devon, Great Britain. His name is inscribed on the cenotaph in Richards Landing, St. Joseph Island, Ontario.
