95 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND De FREITAS, Damon Master Warrant Officer Damon De Freitas was born in Toronto, Ontario on June 25, 1975. He joined the Reserves on May 7, 1994, as a Signaller. Today, he is the Garrison Sergeant Major of the 4th Cdn Divisional Support Group (4 CDSG), The GTA Garrison. Damon served in Germany. Upon his return from Europe, he served in Trenton ON, Bosnia and Herzegovina, The Canadian Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), in Stockholm, Sweden in 2001 and Afghanistan with the PPCLI. He was deployed a few months later for participation in Operation Athena. After his return, he moved to 32 CBG HQ in the IS IT role. During his term, he would work in this role and eventually he was Acting G6 for which he received a 32 CBG Bde Commanders Commendation. In November 2022, he transitioned to his new role in the 4th Cdn Divisional Support Group, Garrison Sergeant Major of the GTA. He participated in the International NCO Leadership Development Conference in Winnipeg in 2013. Damon lead the Steadfast Ally exchange in 2015 and participated in the 100th anniversary of the Armistice in Belgium. Damon was awarded a Commander Joint Task Force Central/4th Canadian Division Commendation. He resides in Toronto with his spouse and youngest child. DELION, Harry Conrad August Harry was born in the community of Conestogo, near Berlin (today’s Kitchener), Ontario, on October 21, 1898. He was the son of Harry and Catherine (Stumpf) Delion. On March 24, 1916, Harry enlisted in the Army (Regular Force) in Berlin with the 118th Canadian Infantry Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force. He was seventeen years old and single. He listed his trade as baker, and had no previous military experience. Private Delion sailed from Halifax on the SS Scandinavianto arrive in England on February 6, 1917. After getting some training in England, he landed in France on May 17 assigned to the 1st Canadian Infantry Battalion (Western Ontario Regiment), part of the 1st Canadian Division. Later that fall, his unit fought in what was known as the Third Battle ofYpres in the Belgian province of Flanders. On November 6, 1917, following the Canadians’ assault on the town of Passchendaele, Private Harry Delion was reported as having been killed in action. He has no known grave. His name is engraved on a panel at the Menin Gate (Ypres) Memorial in Belgium. In Canada, he is commemorated on page 226 of the First World War Book of Remembrance. DePASS, Eric Earle Earle was born in Kingston, Jamaica on July 12, 1960. He joined the CIC on March 24, 2008, after enrolling as a Civilian Instructor two years previously. Capt DePass was previously affiliated with the 325 Kiwanis Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron (RCACS) in Cornwall, where two of his three offerings had been very successful Air Cadets. Earle used to fly as a power familiarization pilot for 325 RCACS for several years. In 2007, Earle successfully completed the power-to-glider conversion course and then enrolled as a glider pilot with the Mountainview Gliding Centre, near Trenton. After working as a glider pilot for nine years in 2016 he left to become the Training Officer/DCO for the 253 Claude Nunney V.C. RCACS in Lancaster. Capt DePass became the Commanding Officer on November 1, 2016, until June 2018 when he took a sabbatical. In 2022, Capt DePass returned to become the Training Officer of the combined 253 and 379 Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadrons into the 253 Claude Nunney V.C. Glengarry RCACS, in Alexandria. Capt DePass assumed command of that squadron on June 15, 2023. He was released on July 12, 2025. Earle is a one-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Claude Nunney V.C. Branch 544.
