107 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND EARLE, John Henry John was born in Ireland on June 8, 1891, and immigrated to Canada as a child settling near Egmondville, Ontario. He returned to Ireland for a time but returned to Canada in time to enlist in the Army (Regular Force) in Seaforth on March 21, 1916, with the Western Ontario Regiment. He sailed to England on the SS Lapland in November 1916. He was promoted to Cpl and served with the 161st Battalion. He was taken on strength to the 18th Battalion, 4th Reserve and in April 1918, he suffered a gunshot wound in the left leg at Vimy Ridge. He was transported to England and following his recovery, he was posted to the Western Ontario Regiment Depot at Whitley. He later joined the 18th Battalion. In October 1918, he was given permission to marry and married Sophia Glover. He returned to Canada and was discharged onAugust 26, 1919. The couple settled in Egmondville and had a family of four. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Seaforth Branch 156 for forty years. John passed away in 1965 at the age of 74. EASTMAN, Reginald Reginald was born on March 18, 1921 in Belleville, ON. He enlisted in the Canadian Army on June 21, 1940 and served with the Grey and Simcoe Foresters in England, Italy, France, Germany and Holland during World War II. Following his discharge in 1945 worked in trucking and had a western show on CFOR Radio. He was a member of George Duff Memorial Legion Branch 516. Reginald passed away in September 1987. EASTMAN, Wilfred G. Wilfred was born in Orillia, ON in 1914. He enlisted in the Canadian Army in 1941 and served with the Grey and Simcoe Foresters during World War II. Wilfred was killed in action in a training accident in Mulgrave, NS in 1941.
