163 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND GRIEVE, John Gordon Gordon was born on November 13, 1919, in Port Elgin, Ontario. He enlisted in the CanadianArmy on June 2, 1941 and served with the Royal Canadian Ordnance Corps, 3rd Division in England during World War II. He was discharged on September 2, 1944 and was sent home from England after contracting polio. He was assured that he would spend the rest of his life in a wheelchair but recovered sufficiently from back and leg paralysis and returned to the Saugeen Township to farm. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Port Elgin Branch 340. Gordon passed away on May 6, 1981. GURMAN, Frank Frank was born in Lachine, Quebec on September 4, 1898. He enlisted in the Army (Regular Force) with in the Canadian Expeditionary Force on March 20, 1917 and was assigned to the Seventh Brigade CFA with the rank of Gunner. He was wounded near Cambrai receiving gun shot wounds to his neck, left shoulder and left thigh, resulting in 68 days in hospital. He was discharged on February 14, 1919. Frank married Isobel (Belle) Potts on June 12, 1926 and had one child, Sarah Josphine who was born on March 20, 1927. They lived in Hamilton where Frank worked for the Canadian National Railway until his passing on November 19, 1960. Frank is buried in White Chapel Cemetery in Hamilton, Ontario. GUY, William George Franklin William was born on July 27, 1897 in Wentworth County, Ontario. He enlisted in the Canadian Army on March 10, 1916 and served with 13th Platoon, D Company, 119th Overseas Battalion; he transferred to 58th Canadian Battalion upon arriving to England. William saw action in Britain and France, and received gunshot wounds to the chest and right knee on September 11, 1918. Private Guy was discharged on July 4, 1919 and received the British War Medal and the Victory Medal. After the war, he returned to farming on Manitoulin Island. William passed away on August 2, 1973.
