25 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND ANDERSON, Cecil Adam Cecil was born on June 25, 1920, in Glenelg Township, Ontario, to Mary Ann Marklow and Adam Anderson who raised a family of eight including Cecil. His siblings were, Ethel Peart, Agnes Harrison, Margaret Peart, Mary Peart and brothers Jack, Melville and Leslie. In 1940, he enlisted with the Canadian Army (Regular Force) as a Private Trooper and served in Canada, British Isles, Europe, Italy and Africa. Cecil married Gretta Watson, daughter of Private Harold John Watson and Margaret McKechnie on July 15, 1950. They raised a family of three boys, John, Wayne, and Doug. Upon discharge, he returned home in 1945 and joined The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 308, Durham for approximately 65 years of active membership. Cecil passed away on October 5, 2010. ANDERSON, John George “Jack” Jack was born in North Dakota on November 27, 1893. The family moved to Belgrave, Morris Township at some point. He enlisted in the Army (Regular Force) in Wingham, Ontario with the 161st Signallers Battalion on February 8, 1916. He embarked for England on the SS Laplandfrom Halifax on November 1, 1916, and arrived in Liverpool on November 11, 1916. He was taken on strength to the 4th Canadian Res. Battalion and was awarded the Good Conduct Badge in February 1918. He then transferred to the 15th Canadian Infantry Battalion and was in France when he suffered a flesh wound on the chin in November 1918. He returned to Canada and was discharged on March 25, 1919, in London. He married in 1920 and had one daughter. He died on April 26, 1970, and is buried in Brandon Cemetery in Belgrave. ANDERSON, William William was born November 2, 1875, to parents Alexander and Agnes Anderson in Brechin, Forfarshire, Scotland. He married Ann Smith on December 31, 1897, then immigrated to Canada in 1906. William had four children at time of his attestation, and his prior trade was a tinsmith. On February 1, 1916, at age forty, with two sons already in khaki, William, with prior military service with the Angus Rifles, voluntarily enlisted in Toronto into the 134th OS Bn - 48th Highlander Regiment, CEF. Other serving family members were his sons, Robert S. Anderson (134th OS Bn) and Alexander Anderson (95th OS Bn). William left his remaining family, departing from Halifax, NS, onboard the SS Scotian, arriving in Liverpool, England onAugust 19, 1916. While in France, he served with the 15th OS Bn before being transferred March 22, 1918 to the 6th CRT as a sapper. On March 31, 1919, he was discharged in Toronto, and found employment as a metal worker at the Guide Motor Co. in Toronto, Ontario. William Anderson died on December 19, 1927, at age 52, and was buried at Park Lawn Cemetery, Toronto, Ontario.
