177 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND HASTINGS, James Lindsay James was born on November 24, 1884, at the Glen Lee Farms in Plattsville, Ontario to Alexander and Jennet (Little) Hastings along with five siblings: Agnes, Jessie, John, William, and Robert. He enlisted in Toronto with the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry on July 29, 1915. After four months of basic training, James and his unit were shipped to England on November 27, 1915, where they received additional training and James was promoted to Corporal. The unit was shipped to France and was posted with Eastern Ontario Regiment and moved to the front lines. During the battle, he was caught in a bomb blast on September 15, 1916, and died instantly. His name has been added to the Vimy Memorial, Nord Pas-de-Calais, France. Corporal James Lindsay Hastings is commemorated on page 100 of the First World War Book of Remembrance in the Peace Tower on Parliament Hill, Ottawa. Great nephew Glen Diamond and family are proud of his courage and dedication to his country. HATT, Albert Albert was born on July 22, 1920, in Lion’s Head, Ontario. He joined the Canadian Army and served with the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps in England and Holland during World War II. He was a driver for the Canadian Hospital Service, transporting wounded soldiers to field hospitals in the vicinity. In 1973, he went back to Almelo, after 28 years, to visit the Derksen family where he had been a resident for several months. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Lion’s Head Brach 202 for twenty years. Albert passed away on March 17, 1988. HATT, Georgina “Ina” Ina was born in Newcastle, England on December 25, 1925. She enlisted in the British Army in 1942 and served with the Royal Army Service Corps in England during World War II. She married a Canadian soldier on November 23, 1943 and came to Canada after the war to live in Lion’s Head, Ontario where she raised her family. She was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Lion’s Head Branch 202 for sixty years and served as the 1st President of the Ladies Auxiliary in Lions Head. Ina passed away on March 1, 2011.
