He enlisted in the Canadian Army in 1914 and served with the 3rd Lincolnshire Regiment during World War I and the Veterans Guard of Canada duringWorldWar II. He fought in the trenches atYpres, France during World War I and was shot in the hip by a German sniper. After recuperating, he was sent to Northern Ireland after the 1916 uprising. He was discharged in 1918 and reenlisted inWorldWar II and was stationed at the prisoner of war camp in Medicine Hat, AB guarding German prisoners. He had ten children and was employed as a motor mechanic. He was a Life Member of The Royal Canadian Legion Colonel Tom Kennedy Branch 582 and was a Past President. Sam passed away on December 16, 1984. GREENFIELD (COONEY), Mabel D. Mabel was born on October 7, 1922, in Toronto, Ontario. She enlisted in the Canadian Army in 1942 and served with the Canadian Women’s Army Corps. She was the secretary of Lieutenant Colonel Thomas in Ottawa during her time in the army. Mabel was a model for a military poster along with other members of Canada’s Armed Forces. She was discharged in 1945, married a year later, and was a stay at home mom to two girls. She was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Pte. U.J. Waters Branch 136 for thirty years. Mabel passed away on March 21, 1999. GREENFIELD, William P. William was born on June 1, 1922, in Toronto, Ontario. He enlisted in the Canadian Army on July 21, 1941. He served with the 5th Division of the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps in Holland, Germany, Normandy, France and Belgium. He was discharged in 1945 and worked on the AVRO until it was scrapped. He was a member of Pte. U.J. Waters Legion Branch 136 for 38 years. William passed away on October 10, 1999.
