65 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND COOK, Harold Ewart Harold was born in Barrie, Ontario on April 7, 1919. He joined the Queen’s Own Rangers in 1940 before enlisting in the Army (Regular Force) with the Governor General’s Horse Guards, 3rdArmoured Reece Regiment and being shipped overseas on October 4, 1941. Harold drove scout cars during the Italian campaign before being killed in action on December 12, 1944. He is buried in Ravenna War Cemetery in Italy. Harold survived three years following the death of his brother, Ross, in a training accident. COOPER, David George Davd was born in Middlesex, England on February 23, 1893, to James and Lydia Cooper. At sometime before the Great War, the family moved to Canada and perhaps David worked in the rural area east of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. He joined the Army (Regular Force) and was in the 2nd Battalion, Eastern Ontario Regiment, Canadian Infantry. On April 23, 1915, Private David Cooper died of wounds received in the area of Poperinghe, France. He was originally buried in the Old Poperinghe Cemetery, but was reinterred in the New Poperinghe Cemetery in 1916. His name is inscribed in the Port Findlay Cemetery east of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. CORBETT, Stanley A. Stanley was born on June 24, 1918 in the Downie Township, ON. He enlisted in the Canadian Army on June 2, 1940 and served with the Perth Regiment, C Company in the United Kingdom and Continental Europe during World War II. Private Corbett was discharged on October18, 1945 and was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp. He was a member of St Mary’s Legion Branch 236 for 57 years. Stanley passed away on January 6, 1997.
