43 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND BRENT, John Arthur “Jack” Jack was born in Malton, Ontario on June 9, 1924. He joined the Highland Light Infantry of Canada in Galt and served for one year before enlisting in the Army (Regular Force) on June 2, 1941 during World War II. Jack was employed at that time at Dominion Woolens in Hespeler where his father worked for the CN Railroad Station. He had three brothers and two sisters. After training in London, Ontario, he was deployed overseas to the United Kingdom in 1941 and wounded in France in October 1944. He recovered and was discharged on February 2, 1946. Jack married and resided in Hespeler raising six sons and one daughter. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Hespeler Branch 272 for forty years. Jack passed away on January 3, 1995. BRENT, William Arthur “Willie” “Bill” Bill was born in Baden, Ontario on May 3, 1889. He joined the military on July 16, 1915 and sailed overseas serving the Canadian Expeditionary Forces 58th Battalion, 9th Infantry Brigade, third out of Toronto. His duty was a telegraph operator for his three years in World War I, which was involved with many battles that took place, Vimy, Passchendaele, The Somme, and Ypres Flanders. He was released in 1919. When he returned to civilian life as a telegraph operator for the Railway, he retired from the Hespeler train station. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Hespeler Branch 272. Bill passed away on April 11, 1975. BRIGGS, Randolf Eric Randolf was born on June 10, 1917, in Powassan, Ontario and was a lifelong resident. He joined the army in 1942 and spent most of World War II in North Africa and Italy. He was discharged from the Army in 1946. Eric passed away on June 11, 1967.
